I was expecting it to happen, I was hoping for much more of a return. Red Sox dealing Betts and David Price in what shouldn’t be considered a salary dump considering they’re still paying half ($48 million) of his salary to the Dodgers in what turned out to be a 3 team deal. In return they get Alex Verdugo a 23 year lefty outfielder. From Minnesota a 21 year old pitcher Brusdar Graterol. Verdugo I think has potential, I’m expecting him to play left field and move Benintendi to right field. Being a lefty at Fenway can help him with that short right field. Graterol I don’t know anything about, all I know is he’s 21, 6’1 265. To me that sounds like old Red Sox pitcher Rich Garces with that frame. What concerns me is he’s only 21 and has put on 40 pounds. Overall I think it’s a pretty bad trade. If you’re paying half of Price salary, why not keep him? If you’re getting such a small return for Betts, why not keep him or wait until the July 31st deadline see where you are and see who will get stupid desperate and pay too much for him. I’m not a fan of the deal at all overall. Still one lingering question, who’s going to be the next manager? Hopefully find out soon. I’m hoping for Buck Showalter personally.
